NEW MEMBER ORIENTATlON
New member orientations are on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month starting at 1:00pm.
Please be on time and be prepared for classroom and onsite walk of the club grounds.
Have all your paperwork and payment completed before you come to the orientation.
The orientation usually takes about an hour and a half.
During that time you will be instructed on what is listed on this page.
Please bring appropriate eye and ear protection for the tour of the ranges.
There are five steps to prepare for your Orientation

INTRODUCTION
The Siuslaw Rod and Gun Club is a non-profit corporation and occupies 43 fully fenced acres of land owned by the Club. Access is limited to members, their immediate family and guest(s) who are chaperoned by a current member. All the club’s business is conducted by volunteers.
GENERAL SAFETY RULES
All persons are expected to fully comply with all club rules while on the facility. Failure to comply may result in that person being required to leave the range grounds. This is a COLD RANGE, which means no loaded firearms will be allowed to be carried onto the range property.

- It is understood that I can be held responsible and liable for any damages I may cause from intentional damage or destruction of property: either owned by the club or one of the shooting venues.
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed on club property at any time.
- Never use alcohol or drugs before or while handling firearms.
- Approved eye and ear protection is mandatory on all shooting venues whenever active shooting is in progress.
- Observe and obey all signs posted at the various range venues.
- Be courteous and cooperate with other shooters to maintain range safety.
- Always keep the muzzle of your firearm pointed in a safe direction.
- Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready for use.
- Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
- Treat all guns as though they are loaded.
- Know your target and what is beyond. All projectiles must impact a berm after going thru a target.
- Be sure the gun is safe to operate.
- Know how to use the gun safely.
- Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.
- Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.
- Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
- Be aware that certain types of guns and many activities require additional training and safety precautions.
AUTHORIZED FIREARMS & TARGETS
Fully automatic (Class Ill) firearms, .50 caliber BMG, or equivalent firearms are prohibited. Only authorized targets may be used on any of the ranges No cans, bottles or any hazardous or contaminating items may be used as targets. All targets must be posted or mounted in such a fashion as to prevent any rounds or shot from leaving the range. No armor piercing, incendiary ammo, incendiary devices, or incendiary targets of any kind are permitted. Only Club Supplied Steel targets are allowed.
HOUSEKEEPING
All shooters are required to clean up after themselves. Pick up all brass and shot shells and place them in the club receptacles if not retained for reloading. Pick up all targets and frames and return them to their proper storage area. Place all trash in receptacles provided.

SHOTGUN RANGES

- All gun actions must be open and empty until you are at your firing position, and it is your turn to shoot. Guns not on the firing line must be unloaded, racked or cased.
- Due to the extended range and possibility of shot going off the property, no shot larger than 7½ or high base hunting loads may be used.
- Due to close residential dwelling proximity, never shoot toward the eastern fence line (right side).
- All shot clay birds must land inside the fence line.
- Only approved clay targets are to be used.
RIFLE RANGE

- The cease-fire warning beacon will be used anytime someone is down range for any reason. Follow closely the instructions on the range signs during a ceasefire.
- Do not handle anything on the benches during a cease-fire.
- When not in use, all gun muzzles must be pointed down range, actions open, empty, magazine tubes extended.
- Guns not on the benches must be in the racks open, empty or cased.
- Only paper, cardboard or clay targets are authorized for use.
- No ground or skipping targets, only club supplied steel targets may be used.
- All bullets must impact below the tops of the berms to remain safely inside the range.
PISTOL RANGE

- The cease-fire warning beacon will be used anytime someone is down range for any reason. Follow closely the instructions on the range sign during a cease-fire.
- Do not handle anything on the benches during a cease-fire.
- When not in use, all guns must be cased or placed on the bench, muzzles pointed down range. Actions are to be open, empty, clips and magazines removed, magazine tubes extended, cylinders open and empty.
- Only paper, cardboard or clay targets are authorized for use.
- No ground or skipping targets, only club supplied steel targets may be used.
- All bullets must impact below the tops of the berms to remain safely inside the range.
- Target frames and wooden stands are available and are stored inside the main shelter. Tire casings may be utilized to prevent wind from blowing target frames over.
ARCHERY RANGE

- No firearms are to be used on the archery range.
- Arrows must impact into targets provided.
- Be sure of your target direction.
ORGANIZED SHOOTING EVENTS
Organized matches and/or training activities may require the use of specialized targets or equipment.
These targets or equipment are under the direct control of instructors, match directors, and range safety officers.
No other use of non-listed targets may be used without prior approval.
Have your application filled out and bring cash of check for the correct amount. Please be ontime as we start at 1pm sharp.
